Read moreShips and aircraft are high-value transport assets with a special legal status, mandatory registration and an international market by definition. Independent vessel and aircraft valuation is ordered for leasing and collateral, sale and purchase, customs clearance, fixed asset revaluation and litigation. Among the Kanzas company's completed engagements are the appraisal of the aircraft fleet of a Ukrainian airline and the valuation of dry cargo vessels and tankers.
What this practice area covers
Two large asset groups. Vessels — river and sea-going, cargo and passenger ships, tugs, barges, and small craft including boats and yachts. Aircraft — civil aviation airplanes, private and business jets, helicopters and light aviation. Each group has its own dedicated page with the detailed methodology; this page sets out the principles common to both — and they matter to any owner, lessor or lender dealing with mobile, registered, internationally traded assets.
When international clients order a ship or aircraft appraisal
The most frequent purposes: transfer of a vessel or aircraft into a lease or pledge in a financing arrangement; sale and purchase, including cross-border transactions; customs clearance on import into Ukraine; revaluation of fixed assets under national accounting standards or International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS); contribution to charter capital; insurance; property disputes and documented loss assessment. The high unit value and mobility of these assets raise the bar for identification — which is why the valuation process is built around the asset's registration and technical records as much as its physical condition.
Registered assets: how special status shapes the valuation
Ships and aircraft are subject to mandatory state registration, carry hull and registration numbers, and operate under sector rules — airworthiness requirements for aircraft, classification societies for vessels. The appraisal therefore verifies the registration and technical documents, the airworthiness status or register class, and the operating and repair history. The market for these assets is largely international, so the comparative base is regularly built from foreign platforms and transaction data, adjusted for condition, configuration and repositioning costs. Reports follow Ukrainian national valuation standards, methodologically consistent with International Valuation Standards (IVS); the team includes valuers holding RICS and TEGoVA (REV) certifications.
Vessel valuation
River and sea-going vessels are valued by type, tonnage, register class, hull age and the condition of the main machinery. In the Kanzas company's practice — the valuation of dry cargo vessels and tankers, where deadweight, register class and condition survey findings framed the analysis. The detailed methodology is on the vessel valuation page.
Aircraft valuation
Aircraft are valued by type, flight hours, the remaining life of the airframe and engines, and airworthiness status. Among completed engagements — the appraisal of the aircraft fleet of a Ukrainian airline. Aviation assets are benchmarked against the international market, as Ukraine has no open mass domestic market for aircraft. The detailed methodology is on the aircraft valuation page.
Questions and answers
Do you value ships and aircraft for international transactions? Yes. The market for these assets is international by nature, and the comparative base is built from foreign platforms and transaction data; the report can support a sale and purchase, a lease or customs clearance.
Why do the registration documents matter so much? Because ships and aircraft are registered assets whose value depends on airworthiness status or register class. Verifying the registration and technical documents is a mandatory part of the appraisal alongside the physical inspection, which Ukrainian law requires for assets located in Ukraine.
We are importing an aircraft into Ukraine. Is an appraisal needed for customs? An independent valuation is used in customs clearance to substantiate the declared value. The report reflects the international market data for the specific type, age and condition of the asset.
How much does a ship or aircraft valuation cost? We quote the fee and timeline after receiving the list of assets with technical specifications and the purpose of the appraisal. Based on this, we assess the scope and agree a fixed price and schedule — before the contract is signed.
