The value of a financial institution is written in its portfolios, not on its balance sheet. A loan book is worth what can realistically be recovered; an insurance book of business is a stream of future premiums adjusted for loss ratios; licences, client relationships and technology form the intangible layer of value. The Kanzas company provides independent valuation of banks, insurance agencies and financial companies — for shareholders, lenders, investors and regulators. Our team includes RICS- and TEGoVA (REV)-certified valuers, and our reports follow the International Valuation Standards (IVS).
What we value in the financial sector
Bank valuation as a going concern and valuation of insurance companies and agencies; loan portfolios and receivables; securities, shares and equity stakes; property and fixed assets of financial institutions; intangible assets, including brands and client books. We also value distressed and hard-to-price assets — a discipline shaped by years of work with institutions under resolution.
Bank valuation: what the engagement covers
A bank valuation typically combines an income approach to the franchise with an asset-quality review of the portfolio: loan structure, collateral coverage, provisioning and maturity profile. Market comparables serve as a cross-check where transaction evidence exists. The result is a defensible value conclusion — for an M&A negotiation, a financial reporting exercise under IFRS, collateral purposes or a court dispute.
Insurance agency and insurance company valuation
For insurance businesses, value concentrates in the book of business: retention rates, loss ratios, carrier relationships and the transferability of the portfolio. Rules of thumb and revenue multiples circulating in the market are a starting point at best — a defensible valuation tests them against the actual cash flows of the agency. We value insurance agencies, brokers and insurance companies for sale and acquisition, partner buyouts, financial reporting and disputes.
Track record
Our team has revalued loan portfolios for more than fifty Ukrainian banks, including institutions from the country's top ten — among them full revaluations of consumer loan books prepared for sale between financial institutions. A substantial body of work was performed for the Deposit Guarantee Fund of Ukraine, valuing the assets of insolvent banks under resolution. In the insurance sector, the Kanzas company has revalued the assets of several Ukrainian insurers, and our team took part in the pre-sale preparation and valuation of three insurance companies — including Ukraine's largest, valued for the sale of the business to a foreign insurer.
Scope of cross-border engagements
For clients outside Ukraine, we provide business valuation, portfolio and intangible asset valuation and damages quantification in line with IVS — services our RICS and TEGoVA credentials allow us to deliver without additional country-specific licensing. Where a jurisdiction requires a locally licensed appraiser for a regulated purpose, we say so upfront and scope the engagement accordingly.
Frequently asked questions
How do you value an insurance agency? Primarily through the income approach: recurring commission revenue, retention and loss experience, adjusted for the transferability of carrier contracts. Market multiples are used as a cross-check, not a substitute for analysis.
Can you value a book of business separately from the agency? Yes. A book of business is a distinct asset with its own cash flow profile and can be valued for a partial sale, a producer buyout or a dispute.
Do you assess a bank's financial soundness or risk profile? No. We determine value — the monetary equivalent of assets, rights and businesses. Prudential assessment and stress testing belong to auditors and regulators.
How long does a portfolio valuation take? From several days for individual assets to a few weeks for large portfolios. We confirm scope and timing after reviewing the asset list.
Financial-sector valuations leave no room for approximation: shareholders, lenders and regulators all read the same number. Write to us by email or messenger, describe your task, and we will respond with a clear scope, timeline and fee proposal.
