A burnt-down finished goods warehouse, destroyed raw materials, stock lost in occupied territory — for trading and manufacturing companies, inventory losses are often comparable to the loss of the buildings themselves. These damages are also subject to valuation and compensation.
The Kanzas company values inventory damages under Section III of the Methodology for Determining Harm and the Amount of Damages (joint order of the Ministry of Economy and the State Property Fund of Ukraine dated 18 October 2022, No. 3904/1223).
How inventory damages are determined
Under para. 6.1 of the Methodology, the valuation determines the costs, updated as at the valuation date, required to replace the property.
An important feature (para. 6.2): damaged inventory that has lost its original functional and consumer properties is treated as destroyed — the damages equal those from destruction. This is only logical: soaked raw materials or smoke-damaged finished goods are in most cases unsellable.
