Earthquakes in Ukraine are no exotic rarity: the Carpathian region and the south of Odesa oblast regularly feel tremors from the Vrancea zone (Romania), and even moderate shaking leaves cracks in structures, displaced slabs and damaged utilities. After the tremors, the owner's question is always the same: what is the damage worth, and who will compensate it?
The Kanzas company values earthquake damage to buildings and property for businesses, communities and private owners. 20+ years of experience.
What an earthquake damages
- load-bearing structures and foundations — cracks, deformations, loss of bearing capacity;
- facades, roofs, finishes;
- utilities — water, gas and power networks;
- equipment and goods — from displacement, falls and consequential accidents.
Documentation
The valuation rests on correct records: technical condition inspection reports (where needed, with certified building surveyors involved), photographs taken immediately after the event, a certificate of the seismic event, title documents.
How earthquake damages are determined
The damages equal the difference between the property's value before and after the event. For repairable structures, reinstatement costs are calculated; for unserviceable ones — the replacement cost net of depreciation.
The division of roles matters. The Kanzas company does not perform technical structural surveys of buildings — conclusions on bearing capacity, emergency condition and serviceability are issued by specialised institutes and certified building surveyors. We perform the monetary valuation: we determine the damages in money terms based on the primary documents and the survey. In particular, we calculate and confirm the market validity of the prices in the cost estimates for reinstating buildings to their previous condition. Such estimates must be issued by construction companies licensed for the relevant types of works.
The report and its use
A damage valuation report — for the insurance company, the court, writing assets off the books, or substantiating a reconstruction budget.
We offer a substantiated monetary valuation, realistic timelines and attentive, individual treatment of every client and their situation. Write to us by email or messenger — we will discuss your task.
